the Arboretum

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D

So yesterday (New Year's Eve) my sister, a few artistic friends from church, and I went to the Arboretum in Arcadia to draw the different plants and animals there. but we had so much fun walking around the place we didn't draw much til the end when we sat down to draw some plants.
drawing was really fun :) one of our friends from church who goes the the Pasadena Art Center gave us the supplies we needed (although we brought a whole lot of our stuff anyways) and taught a little lesson.

At the Arboretum there are peacocks everywhere! They just walk around as if they were like people. At first we were kind of freaked out but then we got used to them. It's kind of funny how you would pass by a peacock like it's nothing unusual. The peacocks are practically free. In the parking lot there were lots of peacocks and when we were leaving we almost ran one over. And then this reminded me of a while ago when my family and I were on our way to a restaurant when a peacock runs across the road. We thought that was really weird and wondered where it came from. But now, I know where the peacock came from.

There was a big lake thing where there were a lot of geese and ducks.

A few different types of birds came too.

on the side was this one scary looking bird that just stood still like a statue for the longest time. None of the ducks or geese would get near him. Then suddenly he snatched up a fish out of the water and flew away. It was pretty cool x)

At another part of the lake a few geese gathered close to us and then all of a sudden they flew away at the same time.

There were a lot of interesting plants too...
like this spiky tree

This yellow tree had interesting leaves that felt and looked like the petals of a flower

We also saw carnivorous plants

and there was this colorful looking plant

This is the "Catawampus"!
It's like a house made up of twisted twigs and things like that.

the inside of the "Catawampus" was fun to explore

on our way home we stopped by the new Yogurtland in Rowland Heights and tried some of their new holiday flavors like candy cane, gingerbread, and eggnog. :)
It was a fun day and then at night my brother, sister, and I went to our church's annual overnighter. :)

I also went skiing a few days ago so I'll post about that soon :)
